The waterfall in Orkhon, known as Ulaan
Tsutgalan Khurkheree which means Red waterfall, falls into volcanic
cracks from a height of 20 meters and it is 10 meters wide. This spectacular
waterfall with a beautiful surrounding area is situated 132km from Karakorum,
in Bat-Ulzii soum of Uvurkhangai
province. Besides it is one of the most popular places for tourists to visit in
the Mongolian picturesque landscape, this is also a great spot for watching
birds and fishing. In the 45km of the impressive waterfall, there is the
legendary Tuvkhun Monastery which is on the peak of Undur
Ovoot or Shiveet Ulaan Mountain elevated 2300 meters above sea level in
boundary of the Arkhangai and Uvurkhangai provinces. The Tuvkhun Monastery
establishment dates back to 1964 by Mongolia’s First Buddhist Saint, Undur
Gegeen Zanabazar. He created his famous script “Soyombo” in the
Tuvkhun Monastery in 1680.
